Shigeru Ban Book

Fusing publication and sculpture to express the work of one of the world's pre-eminent architects - Shigeru Ban - the 'paper' architect

Shigeru Ban and Toland Architects

Trigger designed and produced a specialised publication and package for Japanese architect Shigeru Ban in association with Australian firm Toland Williams Architects for a design competition. The publication features a unique woven paper cover and custom-made box conceptualised by Trigger and constructed by paper engineer Benja Harni.

The idea for the piece reflects Shigeru Ban’s reputation as the ‘paper architect’ and references his innovative use of materials, which includes cardboard.

The tactile qualities of the matte paper are contrasted by spot gloss varnish, echoing Ban's signature of use of triangulation.

Paper materials – cardboard and white paper reflect the materials used by Ban.
